At Budapest Ferihegy Airport the Fire and Rescue Base was built near to the Control Tower - in the mid 1980ies - according to drawings by UVATERV. Rapid increase in traffic had called for extending the building to have a floor area about twice as much than before on the one hand, and for re-building a part of the existing building, of course, with operations going on 24 hours a day.
The building was provided with sheds for large-size fire tenders, with office accommodation and hostel with amenities for the staff, above the sheds.
A newly added special function in the building is represented by both of an Emergency Centre and a drill hall for breathing exercises. The Fire Base is equipped with a modern (structured network) telecommunication, building management systems, a news centre as well as with automatic starter installations (for starting the fire engines).
